Overview

CONTEXT

Virgin Pulse is a digital health and wellness company benefit that HR reps recommend to their employees to help manage their wellbeing.

 

The HR reps personalize their company’s Virgin Pulse digital platform every year with different health and wellness features in order to provide a more impactful experience for their employees.

Who: I worked with PMs and Engineers to create a set of data visualization dashboards for our clients (HR reps).

 

What: The dashboards reflect

  • the impact of the Virgin Pulse platform on the health of a company's employees

  • how the platform influences health expenditures by the client.

 

Why: The purpose of these dashboards is to allow clients to individually analyze data, but also have more robust discussions with the account managers.

PROJECT BRIEF

I took over this project as the lead designer after the dashboard designs and concepts had already been created. Along with a product manager, content strategists, account managers (who work with our clients directly), and our clients, I

  • revisited the initial dashboard design concepts

  • conducted client research

  • evangelized research outcomes to stakeholders

  • improved the design of the dashboards to better meet client needs

  • collaborated with engineers to develop visually clean dashboard UI

  • documented the first data visualization design system in the product department

Final Implementation

These are some of the final implemented dashboards, utilizing the design system I documented.

Impact

More effective client conversations and Virgin Pulse platform builds

With on-demand and up-to-date analytics dashboards, our company was able to facilitate more efficient client conversations and more effective Virgin Pulse platform builds per client.

​

Automation of dashboard build

With a formal design system and a few dashboard templates that the team could refer to, I took more of a consulting role with the team when it came to designing the UI of new dashboards and spent more time behind the strategy of the dashboards as a whole.

​

Adoption of design system

As other teams began to create dashboards for their projects, I offered them advice as well as shared the design system for them to use and promote uniformity across all dashboards.
